Fight against corruption progressing in Vietnam
Addressing the conference to review the anti-corruption work for 2013-2020, Party General Secretary and State President Nguyen Phu Trong noted the fight against corruption has been ramping up in recent years and has achieved a number of important results since the Steering Committee on Corruption Prevention and Control under the Party Central Committee was established back in 2013.
Most notably, he said over 87,000 ranking officials and Party members have been disciplined since the 12th National Party Congress took place five years ago. Of the total, more than 3,200 Party members were involved in graft scandals.
Furthermore, over 110 officials under the Party Central Committee’s management, including Party Central Committee and Politburo members, together with more than 30 general-ranked officers, have been disciplined.
Party leader Trong stressed graft scandals, including notorious ones of great public concern, have been dealt with in a serious manner in line with the law, along with in a humanitarian manner.
The results of these efforts clearly demonstrate the Party’s strong determination to combat corruption under the motto of “there are no restricted zones, no exceptions in the corruption fight”, and “actions speak louder than words”.
Moreover, efforts have been made to strengthen and perfect socio-economic management and anti-corruption institutions as a means of supporting the ongoing battle.
From 2016 to May of this year, the Party Central Committee, the Politburo, and the Party Secretariat have issued approximately 80 documents aimed at strengthening the development of the Party, the political system, and graft prevention.
Meanwhile, the National Assembly and the National Assembly Standing Committee have endorsed 62 bills, one ordinance, and 66 resolutions. In addition, the Government and the Prime Minister issued 611 decrees, 532 resolutions, and 197 decisions, all of which are aimed at improving the effectiveness and efficiency of state management across all areas of life.
Emphasizing that anti-corruption is a an extremely difficult, complicated and long-term battle, Party leader Trong asked Party organisations to speed up the fight, considering it as a special task of the Party building and rectification campaign.
The fight should be enhanced drastically, regularly and constantly, with stronger determination and greater efficiency, said Trong.
According to the Party leader, the competent authorities should continue to review and amend the political and legal corridor in order to ramp up the fight against corruption.
