VCN - It can be said that the "bright spot" in Vietnam's economic picture is medical enterprises. In the context of the pandemic, the demand for medical equipment and pharmaceutical products is still high, so medical enterprises have made good use of market demand for growth.

Taking advantage of opportunities

The report of Hau Giang Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company shows that the revenue in the second quarter of 2020 reached 88.6% of the plan. The value of pharmaceutical production in the first six months of the year reached VND2,465 billion, an increase of VND82 billion (3.4%) compared to the same period in 2019 and reached 52.6% compared to the plan in 2020.

In particular, domestic goods reached 100.4% of the plan, up 101% compared to the same period in 2019.

The value of pharmaceutical production in the second quarter reached VND1,418 billion, an increase of VND227 billion (19.1%) compared to the same period in 2019.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong Lien, Deputy General Director of Sao Thai Duong Joint Stock Company:

Speeding up production to meet the market's requirements for Covid-19 testing.

When Vietnam was preventing and controlling the Covid-19 pandemic in the previous period, in addition to many programs to support hospitals and units on the frontline to fight the pandemic on anti-epidemic equipment and medicines, the company has accompanied scientists to have clinical researches, and produce successfully on an industrial scale two sets of Covid-19 test kits includingOne-step RT-PCR Covid-19 kit Thai Duong and RT-LAMP Covid-19 Kit Thai.

This biological set has the outstanding advantage of reducing response time to 4 hours (including 1 hour 30 minutes for pre-PCR and 2 hours 30 minutes for PCR and results analysis); 100% analytical specificity; 100% accuracy.

Facing unpredictable movements of the pandemic during this period, enterprises will strengthen their product capacity and launch quality products to prevent the Covid-19 pandemic in Da Nang.

In particular, implementing social responsibility to the community, on August 3, the company awarded the Ministry of Health 50,000 tests to detect RNA of the SARS-CoV-2 virus (One-step RT-PCR COVID-19 Kit Thai Duong, Multiplex-3 target genes, Version 1.0), worth VND20 billion.

Mr. Do Tuan Dat, Chairman of No. 1 Vaccine and Biological Products Sole Member Limited Company (Vabiotech), Ministry of Health: Researching the production of Covid-19 vaccines to increase the activeness for Vietnam

After a period of research on the Covid-19 vaccine, the company has entered the stage of experimenting on animal to see how the strain of the virus is in animals. Preliminary results show an immune response in animals. This response is equivalent to the wild virus isolated by Vietnam.

The next step, when getting the vaccine response in animals, the company will conduct production to get clinical tests on humans.

To create a complete vaccine, it takes 9-12 months but the company is trying to shorten this time. However, compared to the 10-year average of a normal vaccine, the 18- 24 month period to develop a vaccine has been "speedy".

This project is not only limited to the production of vaccines but also the world is expecting, the bigger goal is to increase the initiative of vaccines for Vietnam, especially for pandemics. If a new strain of the human coronavirus emerges in the future, with the technology available at hand, "assembling" the gene section of the new virus strain will quickly produce a new vaccine.

About taking advantage of "opportunities" in production and business activities, Mr. Doan DinhDuyKhuong, General Director of DHG Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company said that the company had closely organized the distribution and connection systemwith good customers. Focus on selling strategic and key products of the company.Besides, the company has also implemented projects to increase productivity and production efficiency to help save costs.

Another enterprise that also has a rapid breakthrough in the context of the pandemicis the Long Chau pharmaceutical retail system of FPT Digital Retail Joint Stock Company (FPT Retail-FRT). According to information from the enterprises, it is expected that the company will expand the chain to 220 stores and increase coverage nationwidethis year.

According to Mr. Hoang TrungKien, General Director of FPT Retail, the reason for the growth of the company in the context of a disease outbreak is thatthe company has focused on promoting online sales, focusing on increasing sales of the store system by introducing new products to improve sales efficiency.

Besides, FRT also optimizes store operating costs by increasing labor productivity and applying new technologies. At the same time, the company organized training, improving sales skills and customer service style of all employees. It is expected that in 2020, Pharmacity's revenue will increase by more than 230% compared to 2019.

Despite the best efforts in a difficult time to keep growth momentum, the medical enterprises still do not ignore their responsibilities to the community. The story of Vingroup's decision to invest in technology and funding formanufacturingventilators for the treatment of serious patients or help theVaccine and Biological Sole Member Limited Company No1 (VABIOTECH), Ministry of Medicineresearch and produce the Covid-19 vaccine "Made in Vietnam" is the clearest evidence for the social responsibility of many enterprises when the country is struck by a pandemic.

With effort and determination, ventilator production progress of Vin group must be considered "speedy". Specifically, it took only four weeksfrom the announcement of the production plan to the delivery of products for testing.

Going to the big ocean

The Covid-19 pandemic is still complicated in the world, so the demand for medical masks, medicines and medical products is still high. Especially, the demand for importing medical masks from countries like the US, Spain, Canada, Russia is very large. Therefore, this is a "golden time" for pharmaceutical enterprises to boost production, increase sales and profits. If the products are appreciated by countries, it will be an opportunity for Vietnamese enterprises to expand their markets.

Statistics show that the US market currently needs to import about 500 million N95 masks, 200 million masks of all kinds, 1,000 ventilators, 1 billion gloves, 100 million sets of medical robes, 50 million sets of anti-epidemic gowns from Vietnam.

Through research of reporters, from mid-February to now, DANAMECO Medical Joint Stock Corporation has had to work overtime to produce medical masks. Recently, this enterprise invested in six mask production lines due to the urgent demand for medical equipment to prevent and fight the pandemic.

Recognizing the difficulties caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, Mr. Luu Hai Minh, General Director of OIC Nano Technology said that the enterprises had tried to find their own wayin the difficulties.

Specifically, OIC Nano Technology had specialized in the manufacturing and distribution stages. Accordingly, the enterprise only performed scientific and technological research tasks, produced quality products to meet strict testing requirements of State management agencies, and distribution would hire independententerprises and organization toimplement. Each enterprise cooperating with OIC would be only responsible for distributing a few key products.

“In the past, we had a lot of work, but when evaluating and seeking development directionsin the social distancing period,we have found this solution andafter a short time of implementation, the effect is quite clearwhen OIC products sold in the market increased by about 20% compared to the time before the Covid-19 pandemic,” Mr. Luu Hai Minh said.

Also according to the General Director of OIC Nano Technology, enterprises have often thought that they would import production licenses from foreign enterprises to Vietnam, but OICwas doing the opposite. This enterprise had found a way to bring its own technology and copyright to developed countries such as the US and Europe through a Singaporean intermediary. "With such goals, we expect Vietnam's technology products will gain a foothold in the most demanding markets," said Minh.

With FPT Retail, with the long-term development plan in the future, the company will develop the pharmaceutical segment in a planned and controlled manner like the operation of a company's digital product retail system.

"The company will focus on building logistics, increasing the number of pharmacies, developing a team of staff with managerial and professional qualifications to increase operational efficiency," said Mr. Kien.

For Pharmacity, in order to meet the goal of rapidly increasing retail chains to the market, Pharmacity has learned about leading supply chain partners in Vietnam since mid-March 2020 and decided to cooperate with DH Logistic Property Companyof Vietnam belongs to Daiwa House Group (DHLP).With a professional warehouse system in Loc An - Binh Son Industrial Park (IP), Long An Commune, Long Thanh District, Dong Nai, DHLP has been selected as a strategic partner of Pharmacity, in order to provide logistics facilitiesfor this pharmaceutical system.

According to Chris Blank, General Director of Pharmacity, the new Distribution Center of Pharmacity in Loc An - Binh Son Industrial Park will meet the quantity and storage conditions for medicinal products, functional foods and fastconsumption commodities of the company.
