The Official Dispatch clarified that the General Department of Customs continued to strictly implement the Directives, Resolutions, and directions of the Government, the National Steering Committee 389, and Steering Committee 2138/CP on anti-smuggling. In which, focusing on implementing Government Resolution No. 41/NQ-CP dated 9 June 2015 enhancing anti-smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods; Plan No. 358/KH-BCD389 dated 11 November, 2016 of the National Steering Committee 389 on peak period on fighting anti-smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods before, in and after the Lunar New Year 2017; and Plan No. 185/KH-TCHQ dated 17 August 2015 of the General Department of Customs on implementing Resolution No. 41.

Besides, the city and provincial Customs Departments and the Anti-smuggling and Investigation Department organized forces, enhanced information collection, learned the movements in key areas, unified the measures of Customs control operation, especially focusing on fighting against violation signs in commodities such as: Drugs, weapons, explosives, radioactive materials, fireworks, support tools,and toys .

In 2016, Customs discovered, arrested and handled 15,489 cases with infringing goods worth 416.4 billion vnd, and submitted to the State budget 171,2 billion vnd. Customs prosecuted 47 cases and transferred 95 cases to other authorities for prosecution.

Typically, Customs control forces discovered, arrested and handled 31 cases related to illegal trafficking and trading of wildplants and animals and products from wild animals and plants. In which, there were many cases of illegal trafficking of wild plants and animals and products from wild animals and plants in large quantities, such as the illegal trafficking case of 137.5 kgsof ivory and products made from ivory (bracelets,beads) from Angola to NoiBai, and the illegal trafficking of9,052 kgs of Eretmochelys imbricata shells, 1,345 kgs of gecko and 16kgs of live Eretmochelys imbricata from Indonesia to Hai An port, HaiPhong.
