General Department of Vietnam Customs guided to implement the extending transit time for cargo in accordance with the article 47 of Foreign Trade Law of 2018. Accordingly, in case of weapons, explosives materials, explosive pre-substances, supporting tools or transit goods on the list of goods banned from import or export, goods temporarily suspended from export or import, goods banned from business in accordance with the provisions of law must be licensed by the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

In cases where other transit goods fall under the competence of the customs authorities which carry out the transit procedures, the document of requesting for extending time of customs declarants must be stated clearly: numbers of declarations, name of transit goods, reason for extending transit time and other related information. Then, directors of provincials customs departments will consider if the reason is appropriate and meets the conditions of ensuring the original status of the transited goods during the storage period in the Vietnamese territory or not. If it meets the requirement, they will get the approval for extending.

If there is information or suspicious signs of the shipment, the directors of the provincial Customs Departments shall direct the related Customs Branches to conduct physical inspection before approving for extending the transit duration.

The guidance of the General Department of Vietnam Customs replaces the Document No. 776/TCHQ-GSQL dated 21/01/2014.
