China asked to share information about nuclear projects
Foreign Ministry spokesman Le Hai Binh made the remark at an October 13 press briefing in reply to reporters’ question regarding the Chinese media news about three nuclear power plants being constructed close to the border with Vietnam.
Countries building and operating their nuclear power plants need to comply with the Convention of Nuclear Safety and relevant regulations of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Binh said.
“Vietnam has asked the Chinese side to soon work together on a mechanism for regular exchanges of information on those plants,” he noted.
Regarding Russian media reports on Russia’s possible return to Cam Ranh, the official said Vietnam pursues an independent foreign policy of peace, cooperation and development while not forming military alliance against third countries and not allowing any countries to place military bases in the country.
“Vietnam upholds the external policy of independence, self-reliance, cooperation and development, persification and multilateralisation of international relations, and extensive global integration, as well as developing cooperation with all partners on the basis of mutual benefit for peace, stability, cooperation and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region and the world," he added.
The spokesman also expressed Vietnam’s desire for a peaceful resolution to the border conflict between India and Pakistan.
