Tour cancellations, refunds

According to Saigon tourist Travel Service Company, due to the impact of the coronavirus, during the Tet holiday, the company canceled a tour including 500 guests to China. In addition to support forplane tickets and land tours from partners, the company is dealing with one-year tour changes and refunds for guests. Currently, Saigon touristis still actively monitoring the progress of the epidemic, airline flight plans and the level of travel destinations to provide the most appropriate service plan.

Ms. Tran Thi Bao Thu, Media Director of Fiditour Travel Company, said that in 2019, on average, there are about 25 delegations going to destinations in Northeast Asia every month. However, since the beginning of 2020, due to the impact of the coronavirus, the number of passengers coming to this area has decreased dramatically. Specifically, those onChinese routeshave to stop departing during the Lunar New Year. Currently, regarding loss of revenue and number of passengers, businesses are still compiling statistics and are expected tocomplete the New Year tour program with accurate results of damage.

Meanwhile, Mr. Tu Quy Thanh, Director of the Federal Tourism Company, said thatwith the current situation of coronavirus, travel companies specializing in the Chinese market like his company isheavilyaffected. Specifically, in February, his company had about 10 groupsintending to depart to areas in China which were canceled and groups from China to Vietnam were also canceled. For tourists going to China, the company will exchange new domestic or international tours of equivalent value or refund 100 percent of the amount paid. All these costs are borne by businesses, which is a huge difficulty for travel companies and seriously affects revenue in 2020.

According to the representative of Vietravel Company, in addition to the sharply reduced revenue, the company also incurs additional visa costs and cancellation penalties because it has previously prepared services and paid for aviation partners, hotels, restaurants and vehicles to get ready for the Spring travel of visitors. However, to ensure the health of tourists and the whole community, after the outbreak, from January 23, the company canceled the entire tour to China and vice versa, visitors can choose the tour to the point not affected by the disease or be refunded 100 percent of the tour value.

Proactively find new guests

In the face of the above situation, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism has issued a plan to prevent and combat coronavirus in the field of tourism. One of the tasks and solutions proposed by Mr. Bui Ta Hoang Vu, Director of Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, is to research and seek other tourism markets, limiting the influence ofthe Chinese tourism market to the city. However, Ho Chi Minh City has not closed attractions, historical sites, and amusement parks. Because, in the Prime Minister's directive, it is clearly stated that the festivals should be temporarily stopped, restricting crowds but not banned. Therefore, each agency and entertainment spot depends on the situation and the application of disease prevention measures to continue serving tourists and residents.

To prevent the spreadof coronavirus, Saigon Tourism Corporation and enterprises with chains of restaurants, hotels, resorts and travel businesses across the country have proposed businesses in the system to closely monitor the epidemic in order to promptly notify visitors as well as taking measures to ensure safety for tourists. In particular, the hotel system is required to check and review food service, notify the department directly serving the groupto apply measures to handle when guests have symptoms of illness.

With Fiditour Travel, to ensure safety for travelers when traveling or gathering at the airport, tourist destinations the unit has providedmasks andhand sanitizer for visitors on all tours.
