Border Patrol agents arrest 10, seize $700,000 in drugs
On July 10, agents stopped a male U.S. citizen and his wife, a Mexican national, at the Border Patrol checkpoint on the eastbound side of Interstate 8, east of Yuma. After agents directed the driver to a secondary inspection lane, a follow-up search with a canine led to the discovery of 16 pounds of methamphetamine and 35 pounds of cocaine in the vehicle’s rocker panels. The drugs have a combined value exceeding $440,000.
On July 11, agents performing line watch duties tracked footprints found near Gila Bend and caught up with seven men and a juvenile with nine bundles of marijuana valued in excess of $260,000. All subjects were identified as Mexican nationals in the U.S. illegally.

CBP’s Office of Field Operations is the primary organization within Homeland Security tasked with an anti-terrorism mission at our nation’s ports. CBP officers screen all people, vehicles and goods entering the United States while facilitating the flow of legitimate trade and travel. Their mission also includes carrying out border-related duties, including narcotics interdiction, enforcing immigration and trade laws, and protecting the nation’s food supply and agriculture industry from pests and diseases.
