At the meeting with Mr. Ted A. Mc Kinney, Deputy Secretary of Commerce and Foreign Affairs, US Department of Agriculture and US Trade Representative Ambassador (USTR) in charge of agriculture Greg Doud on February 24 in Washington DC, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Quoc Doanh said: “Up to now, Vietnam has licensed 460 businesses providing meat and producing meat, 210 businesses registered to export seafood to Vietnam.”

Besides that, Vietnam has allowed the USA to export six fresh fruits (including cherries, pears, grapes, apples, blueberry and oranges) to Vietnam and reviewing, assessing the risks about phytosanitary, biosecurity with grapefruit, nectarines, apricots and plums from USA to allow import permission into Vietnam.

Vietnam asked the US Department of Animal Health Inspection (APHIS) to quickly recognize the Hanoi Irradiation Center and Toan Phat Irradiation Co., Ltd. to join the irradiation program to export fresh fruits to the US to help Vietnamese companies reduce transporting costs of fresh fruits to the South for irradiation.

At the same time, it is also allowed to supplement the treatment of hot steam (VHT) for fresh fruits exported to the US (besides irradiation) and complete the risk assessment procedures for Vietnam’s grapefruit export to the US market.

In addition, Deputy Minister Le Quoc Doanh also asked APHIS to strengthen the implementation of management measures agreed by the two sides, prevent all quarantine objects accompanying goods exports to Vietnam and agree to only issue phytosanitary certificates for shipments exported to Vietnam when inspecting and ensuring that these shipments are not contaminated with Vietnam's plant quarantine objects.

From February 24 to February 29, the mission of Vietnam led by Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Quoc Doanh went to the US to enhance cooperation and trade of Vietnam-US agricultural products. Joining the mission are 19 enterprises and one association of five product groups such as cereals, animal feed, meat, dairy and aquatic products,vegetables, wooden products and chemicals, fertilizers.

According to the notice from March 2 to March 13, the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) will send a delegation to Vietnam to conduct periodic monitoring and evaluation of the "Program for control of food safety of fish and Siluriformes fish exported to the US market.”

Vietnam is committed to cooperate and ensure that Pangasius produced and exported to the US always has high quality, food safety and reasonable prices.
