Vietnam, Mongolia wish to propel stronger ties forward

Vietnam always places great importance on developing friendly and mutually beneficial relations with Mongolia and continues to support Mongolia at international forums.

National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan made the statement during talks with her Mongolian counterpart Miyegombo Enkhbold in Hanoi on January 22 after a welcome ceremony for the top Mongolian legislator and his high-level delegation currently on a working visit to Vietnam.

Both sides pledged to effectively undertake agreements signed in the areas of diplomacy and security-defence, increase dialogues, information and experience sharing at all levels, join hands in combating crimes, boost partnership in defence industry, logistics and military medicine, and expedite negotiations of agreements on criminal extradition and the transfer of convicted persons.

They have concurred to strengthen bilateral exchanges and cooperation in politics and security-defence, towards stronger bilateral ties in future.

Host and guest underlined the need to maintain mutual visits and meetings between senior leaders and outline major orientation for pushing up the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Mongolia.

Regarding Mongolia’s decision to allow Vietnamese officers to participate in the Khaan Quest' international peacekeeping exercise, NA Chairwoman Ngan affirmed Vietnam's willingness to continue dispatching officers to the exercise while receiving Mongolian officers to Vietnam for learning Vietnamese language.

She also proposed maintaining political consultation meetings between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs this year.

The two lawmakers suggested the two nations should step up their economic and trade links and vowed to ask their ministries, sectors and localities to realize agreements and common perception reached by the two countries’ leaders, and outcomes of the 16th session of their inter-governmental committee.

The two sides will incentivise and facilitate their businesses and investors' operations in each other’s markets.

The chairman of the Mongolian parliament said the two sides need to bolster exports to each other’s markets, as well as collaboration in education, tourism, health care, and people-to-people exchange.

Mongolia desires to learn from Vietnam’s experience in investment attraction policy, export, climate change adaptation, and traditional medicine, he said, adding that the two counties should consider setting up connection in customs and inspection.

NA Chairwoman Ngan assured Vietnam's readiness to share experience in building and joining free trade agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), and asked Mongolia to consider receiving Vietnamese workers to work in Mongolia.

Vietnam always sticks importance to developing win-win cooperation with Mongolia, and that the country will continue supporting Mongolia in becoming a member of the APEC, as well as will act as a bridge for enhancing connectivity between Mongolia and other ASEAN member states, Ngan told her guest.

Concerning regional and international issues of shared concern, the two parliamentary leaders agreed that the two sides will closely coordinate at multilateral forums, and work hand in hand to supervise the implementation of agreements signed by the two Governments, and ministries and sectors.

The Mongolian parliamentary leader highlighted Vietnam as an important partner of his country in Southeast Asia, noting that Mongolia backs Vietnam's candidacy for a non-permanent seat in the UN Security Council for the 2020-2021 term.

After the talks, both leaders signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation between the two legislative bodies and witnessed the signing of an MoU on cooperation between Vietnam’s Hoa Binh province and TUV province of Mongolia.
