The event focused on the draft political report to be submitted to the 14th National Party Congress, the draft review report on some theoretical and practical issues of the socialist-oriented Doi moi (Renewal) process over the last 40 years in Vietnam, and some other issues expected to be considered at the 10th session of the 13th-tenure Party Central Committee.

Party General Secretary and State President To Lam highly evaluated the preparations of the drafts, which have selectively taken into account opinions raised at previous meetings and are now basically eligible to be submitted to the 10th session of the Party Central Committee.

He emphasised that the 14th National Party Congress will be an important milestone on the course of national development. It will review the implementation of the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress, 40 years of the socialist-oriented Doi moi process, 50 years since the South liberation and national reunification, and 35 years of implementing the Platform on National Construction in the Period of Transition to Socialism.

It is set to make decisions on orientations, targets, and tasks for the entire Party, people, and army during the 2026 - 2030 period, push ahead with carrying out the socio-economic development strategy for 2021 - 2030, and work towards the Party’s centenary, creating a stepping stone for realising the vision for 2045, which marks the 100th founding anniversary of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, he said.

Given these turning-point milestones, cadres, Party members, and people are looking forwards to new, strong, and clear-sighted decisions and policies of the Party to make development breakthroughs for the nation, the leader noted.

Therefore, the political report holds great significance, he said, noting that it must be of truly high quality, serve as a basis of orientations for other documents and the Party’s leadership in the next tenure, and lay the cornerstone for the following years.

As the focal report, the political report must gather all quintessence of the values in the past, the present, and the future; seriously summarise the results of the 55-year implementation of President Ho Chi Minh’s testament; and continue to thoroughly grasp the directions by late Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, especially three basic principles for drafting documents (being steadfast and reforming; inheriting and developing; and harmoniously combining theory with reality, as well as studying theory and reviewing reality with sketching out policies), the leader said.

With regard to the draft review report on some theoretical and practical issues of the socialist-oriented Doi moi process over the last 40 years in Vietnam, the top leader basically agreed on the assessments made in this draft.

The draft review report clarifies the development of the Party’s theories about the socialist-oriented Doi moi process, along with the construction and defence of the socialist Fatherland over 40 years of Doi moi. It points out achievements and shortcomings in socialism building in Vietnam, the important progress in theoretical awareness of socialism and socialism building in the country, along with issues emerging and lessons.

The draft also makes reality-relevant predictions while proposing key goals, viewpoints, targets, tasks, and measures for comprehensively stepping up Doi moi, according to the leader.

The Politburo basically agreed that review results of the 40 years of Doi moi form an important input for drafting documents for the 14th National Party Congress. So, the draft review report must continue to be perfected quickly and scientifically.

Party General Secretary and President To Lam asked the drafting bodies to consider opinions from the Politburo, the Secretariat, and related ministries and sectors to continue perfecting the documents to submit them to the coming 10th session of the Party Central Committee./.
