Strong Party, growing country, eternal nation
Party General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong
The article marks the 89th founding anniversary of the Communist Party of Vietnam and outlines directions for national growth. Here are some excerpts from Mr. Trong’s article.
Vietnam gained remarkable achievements in socio-economic development and Party building in 2018 after three years of implementing the 12th National Party Congress’s Resolution, thereby boosting confidence in Vietnam’s bright future.
Country flourishes and prospers
The Party leader and President reviewed Vietnam’s achievements in 2018, noting that the economy was valued at more than US$240 billion, a 30% rise since 2015. Vietnam became the hottest investment spot in Asia and maintained its top place in APEC for foreign investors. Vietnam made great strides in international integration and enhanced its international status.
The Party, National Assembly and government promulgated guidelines, mechanisms, and policies to create momentum for sustainable socio-economic development.
The Party Central Committee’s policies on preventing and combating degradation of political stance, morality, and lifestyle and improving cadres’ capability strengthened the Party leadership. The intensified fight against corruption boosted public trust in the Party. According to the top Vietnamese leader, Vietnam’s position and strength have substantially improved.
The Party and State leader attributed Vietnam’s 2018 achievements to national renewal over more than 30 years, national unity, social consensus, and the combined efforts of the Party, people, and army.
His article points out that Vietnam’s revolutionary achievements during the last 89 years under the leadership of the Party have proved the competence of that leadership.
The Communist Party of Vietnam has drawn lessons about remaining absolutely loyal to national and class interests and persistent in a national ideology that combines socialism based on Marxism-Leninism with Ho Chi Minh Thought and about upholding the tradition of national independence, being self-reliant in setting guidelines, strengthening the bond between the Party and the people, and promoting international solidarity.
Vietnam will continue to grow
Vietnam continues to promote national renovation, industrialization and modernization, developing a socialist-oriented market economy, and strengthening international integration.
Trong stressed the importance of strengthening Party building and rectification and enhancing the ties between the Party and the people.
He said that in 2019, in addition to fulfilling all socio-economic development tasks, maintaining independence, sovereignty and a peaceful, stable environment for national development and promoting external relations, the Party will continue to implement the Party Resolution on Party building and the Politburo’s Directive on enhancing the study and practice of President Ho Chi Minh’s thought, morality and lifestyle.
He said he believes the Communist Party of Vietnam will be successful in fulfilling its tasks. He called on the Party, the people, and the army to join the effort to make Vietnam a peaceful, independent, unified, democratic, and strong country moving toward socialism.
