Russian newspaper highlights value of Vietnam "bamboo diplomacy" policy
In an article published on August 30, the newspaper said since President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence, proclaiming the birth of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam) in 1945 in Hanoi, Vietnam has established diplomatic relations with 193 countries worldwide, including seven at the level of comprehensive strategic partnership.
The Vietnamese National Assembly has relations with legislative bodies of over 140 countries, Vietnamese public organisations cooperate with 1,200 people's diplomacy organisations, and Vietnam is a member of 70 international organisations, it noted.
The newspaper emphasised that throughout Vietnam's independence history, the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) has considered foreign policy as the most crucial part of the revolutionary struggle, not only for independence and autonomy but also to ensure progressive development and advance towards a socialist future for the nation. Today, the diplomatic sector is assigned a leading role in protecting the interests of the country.
Key documents of the CPV consider party diplomacy, state diplomacy, and people-to-people diplomacy as the three pillars of the foreign policy, it said.
The article said that with the "bamboo diplomacy" policy, Vietnam is maintaining relations with all countries willing to cooperate with it on the basis of equality and mutually-beneficial collaboration. A notable feature of Vietnam's approach is considering the scale of economic and political cooperation and the ability to leverage resources of these countries for Vietnam's development.
Vietnam's engagement in multilateral economic and trade cooperation frameworks has significantly boosted the Southeast Asian country's export-import turnover and foreign direct investment, contributing to expanding its economic growth, the article stressed.
People-to-people diplomacy is also a major focus for Vietnam, with the aim of informing the international public of Vietnam's achievements, promoting the country's appealing image, and mobilising external resources for Vietnam's development efforts, it went on./.
