PM Phuc underlines international integration in socio-economic development
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc addresses the teleconference
In his address at a teleconference of the National Steering Committee for International Integration in Hanoi on April 23, the government leader said during the integration process, especially in the past five years, Vietnam has creatively resourced external means in combination with domestic progress to create a strong trend of national development.
He urged the entire political system and all-level agencies to push ahead with international integration efforts with a particular focus on economic integration. With regard to integration in politics and national defence and security, he stressed the need to deepen both bilateral and multilateral relations and enhance the role of multilateral diplomacy.
Concerning integration in culture-society, education-training, and science-technology, PM Phuc said technology and talents will decide the success of competition in the 21st century, and emphasized the significance of learning to raise internal strength in line with common practices and standards.
He highlighted the tremendous achievements Vietnam has recorded in international integration over the past five years, which has contributed to improving a peaceful domestic environment, optimizing favourable factors to serve the country’s development, maintaining socio-political stability, and promoting the country’s image and culture.
“Vietnam has signed or concluded negotiations on free trade agreements with many partners like the Republic of Korea, the Eurasian Economic Union, and the EU. We have also upgraded partnerships with numerous countries and have successfully hosted global events such as APEC 2017, WEF-ASEAN 2018, and the second DPRK-US Summit. These are all demonstrative of Vietnam’s policy of being a reliable friend and partner to the international community,” said PM Phuc.
Representatives from the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the UNDP, the American Chamber of Commerce, the European Chamber of Commerce, and the Japan International Cooperation Agency were also in attendance at the conference.
