According to the Department of Ho Chi Minh City Customs, in the first nine months of 2020, the total import-export turnover through Ho Chi Minh City border gates is estimated at US$80,295.82 million, down 1.34% over the same period in 2019,reaching US$81,388.71 million.
Of which, the total export value reached US$39.5 billion, up 2.88%, and the total import value reached US$40.7 billion, down 5.1% over the same period in 2019. The trade balance deficit achieved US$1.2 billion.
In particular, a number of export items increased sharply over the same period last year, such as: rice reached 1,922,053 tons, worth US$1,977.48 million, up nearly 4,000 tons; computers and accessories worth US$12,408.55 million, up 22.8% over the same period in 2019.
However, a number of key import commodity groups fell sharply, reducing the state budget revenue of the Department of Ho Chi Minh City Customs. Specifically, imported iron and steel reached US$1,259.14 million, down 25.1%.
Imported cars of all kinds reached US$545.81 million, down 33.9% compared to the same period in 2019 reached US$826.08 million; gasoline and oil reached US$1,160.77 million, down 39.7% over the same period in 2019, reached US$1,924.88 million; machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts reached US%4,524.37 million, down 14.7%.
Particularly, imported computers and computer components increased sharply, reaching US$11,601.11 million, up 23.3% over the same period in 2019, reaching US$9,407.24 million.

Currently, turnover of some imported products is inching up, the Department of Ho Chi Minh City Customs is expected to increase revenue for the budget in the last months of the year./.
