Government leader greatly values Japan’s ODA for Vietnam
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc welcomes JICA President Shinichi Kitaoka
At a reception in Hanoi on September 14 for Shinichi Kitaoka, President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the PM said as the agency in charge of coordinating Japan’s ODA to Vietnam, JICA has significantly contributed to the two countries’ cooperation thanks to Japanese ODA funding, which is seen as extra leverage for Vietnam’s socio-economic development over the past years, especially in infrastructure development.
Vietnam has used the funding for right purposes with effective management of the quality of ODA projects, he said while calling on Japan to continue its ODA provision for Vietnam, targeting high-quality infrastructure, personnel training, climate change response, administrative reform, the utilization of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, business environment improvement, and experience exchange in high-quality agriculture.
Concerning the Vietnam-Japan University, the government leader said the two countries’ leaders will continue joining hands in seeking appropriate mechanisms in support of its development.
PM Phuc voiced hope that with the vigorous growth of the bilateral ties, Vietnam and Japan will surmount difficulties to deal with ODA and non-refundable aid-related issues.
He also highlighted the Vietnam-Japan extensive strategic partnership and urged both sides to maintain and uphold the relationship for both present and future generations.
In reply, Shinichi Kitaoka showed his elation at Vietnam’s socio-economic development over the past 30 years with the important role of Japan’s ODA.
The JICA has carried out numerous cooperation projects with Vietnam this year, focusing on infrastructure development, improvement of values of the industry and production, environmental protection, climate change and natural disaster combat, and human resources development, he told his host.
