Deputy PM Truong Hoat Binh attended the 24th International Conference on the Future of Asia held in Tokyo, Japan on June 11-12.

The event saw the participation of senior leaders and representatives from Malaysia, Laos, Indonesia Singapore, Indonesia, New Zealand, Mexico, Thailand, Myanmar and Mongolia, and more than more than 500 delegates from international and regional organizations as well as Japanese and international businesses.

Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh was the guest of honor and gave a speech at the conference.

With the theme "Keeping Asia Open - how to achieve prosperity and stability", the conference focused on trends and factors that have important impacts on the development of Asia.

Delegates held in-depth discussions on the relationship between major countries, the new US trade policy of President Donald Trump, corollary of international economic relations, US-China trade tensions, prospect and next-generation trade agreements such as the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), the Korean Peninsula situation, the US- DPRK Summit, and demand and financial tool for infrastructure development in Asia.

They also discussed measures Asian countries need to carry out in the new context in order to maintain peace, stability and ensure sustainable development in each country and the continent as a whole.

In his speech, Deputy PM Truong Hoa Binh highlighted the great achievements Asia has recorded over the past decades as a result of open policies, trade liberalization promotion, strengthened regional connectivity, stable macroeconomic environment with a favorable business environment.

He suggested five main measures that help Asia maintain growth in the new situation, including complying with international law in general and the World Trade Organisation regulations, accelerating comprehensive economic integration for the common goal of sustainable and inclusive development, accelerating economies’ open-door policy for own interests of each country and common interests of the region, taking humans as a central factor and creativity as a driving force to keep abreast with new trends and maintain sustainable and long-term growth, strengthening trust to ensure an environment of peace and stability for development.

The Deputy PM shared achievements that Vietnam has recorded over the past three decades of reform, emphasizing that trust and start-up spirit are driving force for the country to go ahead with its policy of reform, integration and effective use of resources for rapid and sustainable development.

In order to fulfill socio-economic development goals until 2020, Vietnam is making every effort to build a constructive, transparent, action and service-oriented government on the back of openness and transparency, form a favourable and competitive business environment, and boost global integration, Binh said.

Vietnam’s economic growth prospect is opening up cooperation opportunities for global and Japanese businesses in particular, he noted.

Reviewing 45 years of Vietnam – Japan ties, the Deputy PM held that the bilateral extensive strategic partnership is at the most thriving period and believed that the bilateral ties would grow and flourish in multiple fields.
