Branding boosts Da Lat organic strawberries to the forefront

Over recent years, farmers have shifted from their traditional method of growing strawberries within rows laced with harmful pesticides in the ground to a new hydroponic model.

With this method, strawberries are grown in baskets hung approximately a meter above the ground, watered and fertilized via a piped drip irrigation system.

This organic method of growing strawberries has significantly improved the quality of Da Lat strawberries both in appearance and taste.

The Biofresh Company is a pioneer in this model and its strawberry farm next to the Lake of Sighs has become a popular spot for locals to stop and purchase fresh vine ripened organic berries.

Nguyen Thi Bich Thuy, the CEO of Biofresh says the strawberry seeds are imported from France.

This eco-friendly model of strawberry growing has brought more prosperity to farmers in the Da Lat region, says Thuy.

Da Lat farmers are not only cultivating strawberries but a brand image of quality organic fresh fruit that is reverberating with Vietnamese across the country.

Thuy says the company is now experimenting with producing jams and syrups, which it plans to export in the future.
