Smugglers attack border post to steal exhibits

On the evening of June 2 at milestone 308/2, Dong Ho Ward, Ha Tien City, Kien Giang province, about 50m from the border, the Covid -19 Prevention and Control Point of Sa Ky Border Control Station (Ha Tien International Border Post) discovered some smugglers carrying smuggled cigarettes from the border to the inland area, so they asked for backup to arrest.

The team consisting of 20 officials of the Border Defence force and Mobile Police approached the group and arresting one person and seized packs of smuggled cigarettes. The rest of the group and more than 50 people which came from Cambodia rushed in, screamed and threw stones at the task force. One person used swords to attack competent forces.

Although the Border Defence force asked the people to stop, they acted spontaneously and continued to demolish almost everything. So the working group fired a rubber gun in the air but they did not stop and continued to attack. Then, the working group opened fire in the air again with a UMP rifle which was equipped for the mobile police but it was ineffective. This group only drifted to two sides and hid, some people fled to Cambodia when a fighting dog appeared.

The working group arrested one person and seized exhibits including six packs of foreign cigarettes. One pack was carried by Minh Y who was born in 1986, living in Ha Tien City and the other five packs were left by other subjects.

In this clash, two solders of border defence force were injured in the face and they had to be hospitalised for treatment. At present, the Border Post continues to pursue and arrest the remaining subjects, informing the Cambodian Border Police to arrest the subjects who fled to Cambodia.
