Seizing 4.5 kg of Ephedrine found in motorcycle tires

The shipment containing the drugs as above was sent via an International Express Company in HCM City by air, included one parcel which contained a total of 20 Yokohama motorcycle tires, weight 13.5 kg pending export procedures to New Zealand.

On inspection of the tires, functional forces detected long cuts of 3-4 cm, sealed with resin in each tire.

On testing further, the functional force found white crystal powder was hidden inside 20 of the motorcycle tires which was suspected to be drugs.

The Anti-drug Enforcement Team tested the powder and results showed positive drug precursors. The powder was transferred for expertise examination, and the Institute of Crime Technical Science (C54) - Ministry of Public Security has concluded the specimens were Ephedrine (a kind of precursor for preparing methamphetamine synthetic drug).

The shipment of drugs was seized with a total weight about 4.5kg. The case was handed over to the C47 Department- Ministry of Public Security to expand the investigation.

According to the Anti-drug Enforcement Team, the technique of stashing drug precursors in motorcycle tires is a new method of drug crimes to attempt to avoid attention of functional forces.
