Promoting cooperation between Vietnam and India Customs

The working session was held to further strengthen bilateral Customs cooperationbetween Vietnam and India, based on the Agreement signed by the Governments of Vietnam and India on mutual cooperation and assistance in 2014.
At the working session, leaders of the two countries discussed measures to implement the Customs Agreement, focusing on sharing experience in Customs management, training and developing human resource. The two partiesagreed to establish focal points to exchange information between the two customs offices through hotlines for smuggling and trade fraud to receive and promptly handle relevant issues, thereby enhancing the effectiveness of customs control in accordance with the provisions of the laws, competency and human resources of Customs authorities. The two parties also exchanged information to coordinate and support each other within the framework of multilateral customs cooperation forums such as WCO.
As traditional cooperation partners, in addition to bilateral cooperation activities, through the WCO membership mechanism, the two parties have implemented a number of cooperation activities including exchanging information for Customs operation such as verifying information on declarations, customs value and goods origin.
The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customsis a part of the Department of Revenue under the Ministry of Finance, Government of India. It deals with the tasks of formulation of policy concerning levy and collection of Customs, Central Excise duties, Central Goods & Services Tax and IGST, prevention of smuggling and administration of matters relating to Customs, Central Excise, Central Goods & Services Tax, IGST and Narcotics to the extent under CBIC's purview.
The Board is the administrative authority for its subordinate organizations, including Custom Houses, Central Excise and Central GST Commissionerates and the Central Revenues Control Laboratory.

The key activities that Indian Customs is implementing are standardizing operations and applying best practices: Strengthening IT applications, simplifying customs procedures, standardizingthe management of special consumption tax and tax on goods and services by using modern techniques such as risk management, investment and deployment of physical inspection and facilitating the compliance enterprises.
India Customs is also implementing initiatives in cooperation with other government agencies, the private sector and building partnerships with trade, industry and otherrelevant parties. It is promoting professionalism through strengthening the capacity of customs officers.
