Preliminary assessment of Vietnam international merchandise trade performance in the first half of October, 2020

Vietnam‘s trade-in-goods from January to the first half of October of 2020 totaled US dollars 413.18 billion in value terms. It posted a increase of 2.3% (equivalent to USD 9.27 billion) from the same period of previous year. In which, the total merchandise exports value was up by 4.6% to nearly US dollars 215.25 billion and the total merchandise imports value was down 0.1%, to US dollars 197.93 billion.

In the view of FDI traders, the value of exportation in the first half of October reached USD 8.83 billion, down by 10.2% and the value of importation reached 6.8 billion, down by 3% as compared to the second half of September 2020. Therefore, from January to October 15th of 2020, the total value of FDI merchandise trade went down by 2.7% to US dollar 248.79 billion.

When compared with the second half of September-2020, export of first half of October decreased by 12.2%, mostly as a result of the downturn registered in computer electrical product ( down by 13.7% - 312 milion); telephones, mobile phones and part

In the first half of October 2020, import decreased by 4.1 % when compared with the second half of September, mainly reflecting the downturn in machine, tools and equipments (down by 9.9% - USD 173 millions); computer electrical product (down by 6.4% - USD 205 million);
