Preliminary assessment of Vietnam international merchandise trade performance in the first half of November, 2020

The Vietnam Customs Statistics announced that in the first half (01-15/11/2020) of November-2020 , Vietnam’s total exports of US dollars 11.54 billion and imports of US dollars 11.61 billion resulted in a trade deficit of US dollars 63 million. Accordingly, the total value of export and import turnover of Vietnam in the first half of November was US dollars 23.15 billion, down by 13.8% as compared to the second half of October-2020.

Vietnam‘s trade-in-goods from January to the first half of November of 2020 totaled US dollars 463.11 billion in value terms. It posted a increase of 2.7% (equivalent to USD 12.32 billion) from the same period of previous year. In which, the total merchandise exports value was up by 4.9% to nearly US dollars 241.26 billion and the total merchandise imports value was up slightly 0.5%, to US dollars 221.85 billion. In the view of FDI traders, the value of exportation in the first half of November reached USD 6.44 billion, down by 39.1% and the value of importation reached 5.59 billion, down by 29.6% as compared to the second half of October 2020. Therefore, from January to November 15th of 2020, the total value of FDI merchandise trade went up by 7% to US dollar 310.4 billion.

Export:

When compared with the second half of October-2020, export of first half of November decreased by 20.5%, mostly as a result of the downturn registered in computer electrical product ( down by 24% - 547 milion); telephones, mobile phones and part thereofs (down by 16.7% - USD 464 million); textile garments (down by 25.5% - USD 326 million); …

In the first half of November 2020, import decreased by 6 % when compared with the second half of October, mainly reflecting the downturn in machine, tools and equipments (down by 7.5% - USD 131 millions); computer electrical product (down by 7.6% - USD 242 million);
