According to the General Department of Customs, April was the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic, so domestic and international demand for medical masks and equipment to fight the pandemic increased quickly.
The offenders often divided goods to transport or declare goods outside of the list of conditional export goods to avoid the inspections of authorities.
Facing that situation, the General Department of Customs strengthened anti-smuggling measures at many routes and discovered and seized many cases.
In April, the Customs agency tackled some illicit trafficking and illegal cross-border transportation cases of goods. Major infringing goods were wildlife products (rhino horn), sugar, cigarettes, beer, powdered milk, medicine, cosmetics, new electronics, wood, poultry and poultry products.
In addition, the General Department of Customs discovered enterprises that had acts of violation such as false declaration of labels, origin and fake instructions on origin of goods, production place, packaging and the assembly of goods.
In April, the situation of illicit trafficking and illegal cross-border transportation of narcotics to Vietnam was very hot and the tricks of smugglers were very sophisticated and the quantity of seized drugs was remarkable.
As the standing agency of Steering Committee 389 of the Ministry of Finance, the General Department of Customs advised the Ministry of Finance to work with other ministries, agencies and other relevant authorities to strengthen the fight against smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods and illegal cross-border transportation of goods, and directed units to take many important measures, which focus on developing and perfecting the legal basis; improving the capacity of the specialized anti-smuggling force; investing in modern equipment and facilities; synchronous use ofprofessional measures; and strengthening coordination, inspection and regular control in key areas and over sensitive items.
