Long An: More than 1.3 million packs of smuggled cigarettes siezed

VCN- According to Steering Committee 389 of Long An province, the transportation of contraband cigarettes across the border of the province is still a major problem. From early 2016 to date, the functional forces in Long An have discovered and seized more than 1.3 million packs of smuggled cigarettes, especially in the month of July with nearly 221,700 packs.

Cigarette smuggling activities still take place mainly in the border districts of Duc Hue, Thanh Hoa and Kien Tuong town. The activities of criminals are increasingly sophisticated, large-scale and serious.

In recent times, functional forces in the province have discovered many cases of smuggled cigarettes on a large scale. Specifically, on July 20 2016, the anti-smuggling force of Duc Hoa district police seized a vehicle with 48,000 packs of contraband cigarettes in the area of Hiep Hoa commune, Duc Hoa district.

On July 12 2016, the anti-smuggling force of the Economic Police Department arrested a transport of foreign cigarettes on the Vam Co Dong River, Tan Phu commune, Duc Hoa district and seized 18,000 cigarettes and a motorboat.

Previously, on July 10 2016, the anti-smuggling force of Duc Hoa district police arrested a criminal using a truck to transport 24,000 packs of foreign cigarettes in Duc Lap commune, Duc Hoa district. On June 23, the anti-smuggling force of Duc Hoa district police arrested a criminal using a vehicle to transport more than 30,000 packs of contraband cigarettes.
