In 2018, volume of cargo through Vietnam ports is estimated at 524.7 million tons

VCN - According to Vietnam Maritime Administration, in 2018, the volume of cargo through Vietnam's seaport system was estimated at 524.7 million tons (excluding the volume of goods in transit), in  which, the volume of containerized cargo through seaports in 2018 was estimated at 17.8 million TEUs, up by 19% and 24% respectively compared to 2017. The number of passengers passing through ports also increased by 28.9% compared to 2017, reaching 5.8 million passengers.

The total volume of cargo through seaports by inland waterway vehicles in 2018 was estimated at 171.6 million tons, an increase of 30.5% compared to 2017, the number of of vehicles entering and leaving ports was 30.2 thousand, an increase of 39.4% compared to 2017.

In which, VR-SB means of transport 35.2 million tons, an increase of 88% compared to 2017. Especially, the transport connection between seaway and inland waterway has developed strongly in the recent years. Currently, the total number of ports announced is 272 ports, with a total capacity of over 550 million tons per year.

Regarding the number of ships, as of December 2018, the Vietnamese fleet has 1,593 ships, with a total tonnage of 7.8 million DWT, ranking 4th in ASEAN and 30th in the world. In particular, the container ship fleet increased from 19 ships (in 2013) to 41 ships in (2018), an average increase of about 20% / year.

In 2018, the total volume transported by the fleet was estimated at 144.6 million tons, the inventory turnover reached more than 153 million tons, up 10.9% compared to 2017, accounting for billions and 55.6% of the total turnover of all modes of transport.

Notably, the Vietnamese flag fleet currently undertakes nearly 100% of domestic transportation by sea, except for some specialized ships such as LPG, bulk cement ....

Regarding maritime and logistics services, the country currently has about 1,300 enterprises providing maritime services. Enterprises providing logistics services of Vietnam only meet ¼ of the market demand and are stopped at providing services for some initial stages (packing, warehouse leasing, customs services) for closed logistics service chain..

However, administrative procedures in logistics service and in procedures in ports have been recently improved significantly. Specifically, the Vietnam Maritime Administration has directed the port authorities to make digital signature to electronic licenses for ships entering and leaving seaports. At the same time, expanding the National Single Window (NSW) for 11 maritime administrative procedures on the NSW Portal at 25 Port Authorities from July 2018. The total number of electronic applications received and approved from July 1, 2018 to date is more than 28,000 applications, accounting for 87% of the total number of received applications.
