At the conference, GDVC’s Director General Nguyen Van Can saythat in the first four months of the year, the Customs authorities detected and handled over 4,000 violations. Drug-related crime groups via air and road routes have increased in scale and number, especially the tricks of the subjects.
As of May 10, the Customs seized over 500kg of drugs and arrested 60 suspects.
Director General Nguyen Van Can saysthat the Customs force coordinated with the Police authority to seize infringing goods and arrest suspects in provinces and cities. For example, recently, Ha Noi Customs arrested a suspect who receiveddrugs sent via express delivery serviceand carried weapons.
Director General Nguyen Van Can proposesthat airlines and forwardersexchange information on goods, passengers and luggage in advance for the competent authorities to classify, evaluate, and improve combat violations. In the coming time, Customs will strengthen screening activities at airports, serving the fight and arrest.
On the other hand, suspects abused the transit and transhipment of goods for drug smuggling and trafficking in the Southwest and Central regions where there is a lack of checkpoints, causing difficulties for the law enforcement forces to supervise and control.
Therefore, the Director Generalrecommended that provinces arrange checkpoints and sites for storing goods at border gates to facilitate customs clearance of goods and combat smuggling.
The Director General also suggested that National Steering Committee 389 not allow the transportof goods in trails and border crossings to prevent smuggling and trade frauds.
