Cannabis camouflaged in chocolate bars

When detecting suspicious signs of a parcel of non-commercial gifts imported from Canada via the express company UPS, duringexport-import goods procedure, Team 4 cooperated with the drug inspection and prevention Team to implement a physicalcheck of the goods.
Suspicious parcels weighing 1.7 kg,were declared including 35 chocolate bars, with the sender's name B.V. (Canada).
Through inspection, Customs discovered somequestionable herbs within 7of the 35 candy bars. Through checking with a rapid reagent of the drug inspection and prevention Team, the sample tested positive for Cannabis.
The assessment results of the Criminal Science Sub-Institute – the Ministry of Public Security in the Hochiminh city (C54B) showed that the sample wasCannabis, in categories 1, Order No. 8 of narcotics and precursors included in Decree 82/2013/ND-CP of the Government dated July 19th, 2013.

Material evidencewasseized and transferred to the Police Investigation Division of Drug Crime (PC47) – the Hochiminh police handledthe investigation.
Although the amount of discovered narcotics was small, it showed the vigilant spirit of officers of the Hochiminh Customs Department for sophisticated camouflage tricks of criminals.If the case succeeded, there would have been further larger quantities in the next shipments.
From the beginning of 2016 until now, the implementation of drug prevention plans has been established between two units; the Drug inspection and prevention Team coordinated with the Customs Express Branch to inspect, detect, record, and seize 26 cases of illegal drugs export and import in the form of non-commercial gifts, including: 3 imported cases with 3.636 kg of narcotics; 19 imported cases with about 1,864.5 kg of Khat leaves; 2 exported cases with about 2.029 kg of heroin; 2 exported cases with about 7.4 kg of precursors ephedrine.
