It was stated by Mr. Bruno Angelet- Ambassador of the European Union to Vietnam at the 2nd summit of Vietnam Energy Partnership Group (VEPG) held on 26th November in Ha Noi.

Specifically, Mr. Bruno Angelet said that currently the prices of solar power and wind power have attracted foreign investors in the infrastructure development in Vietnam. However, these concerns have not been realized by investment yet due to the lack of legal guarantees, which is a top priority.

Secondly, people may increase the supply of solar renewable energy by grid connected rooftop solar power. There should be a regulation and a mechanism to offset power for the national deployment.

Thirdly, for the power structure, Vietnam needs to have a suitable energy structure and change gradually by using gas fuel and other forms of energy to reduce energy from coal. In the future, Vietnam needs have a strategy for comprehensive and practical transformation.

“For these recommendations, the European Union committed to support Vietnam to shift to using green energy, ensuring that people access energy with reasonable price and Vietnam’s competitiveness,”- Mr. Bruno Angelet emphasized.

For the issue of energy development, the World Bank Country Director for Vietnam Ousmane Dione said that over the past 25 years, tens of millions of Vietnamese people have been connected to the grid. However, in the coming time, the Power Industry would face great challenges to fully supply power, clean power with reasonable price.

There are five solutions that Vietnam needs to implement in parallel, including: developing renewable energy; promoting energy saving; promoting energy development from gas; trading power with Laos and Southern China and reforming the Power sector.

“We commit to support Vietnam in providing stable, green and trustful energy with reasonable price for all people, including technical assistance and policies, direct investment aid, guarantees and measures to minimize risks and support policy reform, and improve energy security," Mr. Ousmane Dione said.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, currently, Vietnam has received about 40 key recommendations by the VEPG Technical Working Groups. These recommendations are consistent and effective for the policy development of the Vietnam’s Energy Sector.

Vietnam Energy Partnership Group was established in June 2017 to effectively connect and coordinate the international support for the Vietnam’s Energy Sector. The Group's goal is to use energy effectively with international support for sustainable energy development in Vietnam, in accordance with national laws and treaties to which Vietnam is a contracting party. This Group focuses on five priority areas: renewable energy; energy efficiency; energy restructuring; energy access; energy data and statistics.
