Nomination of Party leader Trong as Vietnamese President obtains unanimity

Party Central Committee have consented to recommend Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong for the presidential post.

The nomination was made on October 3, the second day of the ongoing 8th session of the 12th Party Central Committee in Hanoi.

The Committee also elected Vo Thai Nguyen and Tran Duc Thang as additional members of its Inspection Commission.

In the morning, the Party Central Committee discussed reports on socio-economic performance and State budget implementation in 2018 along with plans for 2019 under the chair of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

Participants showed their approval of the reports by the Government’s Party Committee on socio-economic and budget performance this year and plans for next year, while analyzing problems and outlining directions, targets and solutions.

Personnel work was raised for discussion in the afternoon session.
