Cassava exports to China face many difficulties

The Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) cited data from the General Department of Customs showing that Vietnam in January exported 277,140 tons of cassava and cassava products, worth US$117.35 million, down 40.5% in volume and 32% in value over the same period last year.

The average export price of cassava and cassava products was at US$423.4 per ton, up 14.3% from January 2021.

Notably, in January 2022, exports of cassava and cassava products to China made up 96.4% of the country's total volume of cassava and cassava products, with 267,110 tons, worth US$112.14 ​​million, down 40.2% in volume and 31.9% in value over the same period last year.

In the domestic market, in February 2022, China had low demand for cassava, so the price did not see significant changes and exports of cassava starch by sea were still slow.

A few factories of cassava starch in the Central and Central Highlands increased their prices, encouraging farmers to harvest cassava when they were facing a lack of cassava.

It is forecast that in 2022, exports of cassava and cassava products to China will face many difficulties, the representative of the Import-Export Department said. Recently, to ensure pandemic prevention, China has required that Vietnamese dried products must be covered by nylon film, to prevent the virus from spreading.
