HCM City witnesses trade deficit of more than $18 billion of goods

According to HCM City Customs Department, as of September 13, the total value of goods imported and exported through HCM City’s border gates reached more than $95.2 billion, increasing by 7.23% from the same period in 2020.
Total export value reached more than $38.1 billion, declining by 4.56% and total import value topped $57 billion, rising by 16.9%.
Thus, the trade balance of goods in HCM City accumulated until September 13has a trade deficit of about $18.82 billion.
Many imported products achieved high value, such as: Petroleum reached $3.05 billion, up 162.9%; equipment and machinery reached $5.39 billion, up 18.9%; iron and steel reached $2.36 billion, up 87.3%; computers and accessories hit $14.86 billion, up 28.3% and imported CBU cars reached $1.08 billion, up 96.3%, from the same period in 2020.
However, according to HCM City Customs Department, in recent times, many firms have temporarily suspended production activities, so the amount of goods imported through HCM City border gate had begun to decrease deeply, significantly affecting the budget revenue of the unit.
