Long An province collected VND 495.09 billion, down 23% over the same period in 2019. Tien Giang and Ben Tre provinces collected VND 52.37 billion, falling 24% compared to the same period the prior year.
Le Nam Quoc, Deputy Director of Long An Customs Department, said the reduction in revenue collection was due to a decrease of 25% in turnover with tax compared to the same period in 2019, reaching only $221 million (accounting for 7.2% of total import and export turnover). The items that suffered a decrease in turnover with tax were mainly iron and steel due to the influence of consumption in some export markets.
Besides that, many enterprises in the area temporarily suspended the import of machinery and equipment from China, which also reduced the revenue of Long An Customs Department in the first months of the year.
According to Le Nam Quoc, the revenue collection of the unit in the next months will continue to be difficult as the production and business activities of enterprises in the area have been seriously affected by Covid- 19. With the majority of enterprises operating in the field of processing and export production, some businesses in the provinces of Long An, Tien Giang and Ben Tre are facing a risk of production disruption due to facing difficulties relating to the supply of raw materials as well as export orders.
“Facing this situation, Long An Customs Department is directing units to closely monitor the activities of enterprises and promptly record difficulties and problems arising to have measures for supporting and facilitate import and export activities,” Quoc said.
In 2020, Long An Customs Department is assigned to collect VND 4,000 billion for the State budget (Long An VND 3,685 billion, Tien Giang VND 315 billion). The General Department of Vietnam Customs assigned to collect VND 4,150 billion (Long An VND 3,800 billion, Tien Giang VND 320 billion, Ben Tre VND 30 billion).
