97 sacks of suspected illegal medicine smuggled from China |
On October 17 2016, discussing with the correspondentof the Customs newspaper, a Customs officer working in handling violations (Cao Bang Customs Department) advised that on the afternoon of October 14 2016, the Ta Lung Border Gate Customs Branch (of the Cao Bang Customs Department) and functional forces destroyed 5 tons of trees and dry leaves suspected as medicine smuggled from China.
Before that on September 24,2016, at the riverside of Hung Long Hamlet (Ta Lung Town, PhucHoa District, Cao Bang province), the Anti-smuggling Enforcement Team under the Ta Lung Border Gate Customs Branch coordinated with the Cao Bang Customs Enforcement Team and the Police of PhucHoa District while patrolling at the border area detected a car with licence plate no. 11C02001 driven by Vu Dinh Truong (residing in Ha Giang city, Ha Giang province) who was loading goods including smuggled sacks from China transported to Vietnam for consumption.
Working with the functional forces, the driver Vu Dinh Truong did not present any legal documents and claimed that the goods were refreshing tea and the root of licorice tree, and he was hiredto transport by a unknown person.

The Ta Lung Border Gate Customs Branch seized all the goods and sent a sample to the Cao Bang Pharmaceutical and Cosmetics Testing Center to verify. According to the assessment results, all the goods could not be identified by specific name and were not eligible for import. Based on the assessment result and related regulations, the functional forces of Cao Bang province destroyed the goods.
